TL Safety have been appointed by Conamar Building Services to assist with construction safety for a new £40 Million pound development of a distribution centre and offices for MBDA Missile Systems on the Cutacre site in Bolton. The construction project started in January 2015 and is expected to last for 46 weeks whilst the shell and core is constructed. The interior fit out is likely to last for a further 12 weeks. TL Safety will provide construction safety support to the construction team and will have a presence on site advising on the site set up, reviewing the risk assessments and method statements of the various contractors involved in the build. TL Safety will carry out the site inspections and site audits and generally assist Conamar to deliver this prestigious contract safety.

Are you ready for the new CE Steel Standard?
If you manufacture: steel structures, fire escapes, staircases, balustrades, steel framed buildings or any other structural steel/aluminium products that are permanently placed in a building or structure covered by a Harmonised European Number (hEN) of which the above products are, then the company will be required by law to attain CE Marking by the 1st July 2014.
Companies that buy in lengths of CE marked steel that are then cut, drilled, bent, welded/galvanised into a product, will then become the manufacturer of that product. The onus is on the manufacturer to CE Mark the product

New regulations – CE Mark for structural Steel BS EN 1090-1
If your company works in structural steel/Aluminum you will need to be aware of the new Construction building regulations that come into force on the 1st July 2013/2014.
If you manufacture, bridges, steel work/Aluminum supports, balconies, platforms, balustrades, steel framed buildings,staircases, fire escapes etc. You will be required to CE Mark to BS EN 1090-1 by the 1st July 2014.
BS EN 1090-1 introduces the concept of ‘Execution Class’. The Execution class establishes the required quality of fabrication and its level of safety and can be applied to the whole structure, an individual member or particular
details.There are four Execution classes with Execution class 4 being the highest level of quality control and Execution class 1 the lowest in general they apply to the following structures:-
Execution class 1 – Farm Buildings (structures where the consequence of failure is deemed to be low).
2 – The majority of buildings.
3 – Bridges & structures subject to fatigue.
4 – Long span bridges (structures where the consequence of failure is high).
CE Marking applies to components for incorporation into buildings and structures that are placed in a permanent manner. CE Marking for Structural steel products will become law by 1st July 2014. All other manufactured construction products by 1st July this year.

As a result of Miller Homes and Barratt Homes adopting an SSIP approach to their Approved Contractor process with effect from 31 March 2012 we are assisting Contractors to gain the SMAS Worksafe Certificate.

We will carry out a gap analysis of your existing health and safety arrangements and then prepare any missing documentation that you require. We will complete the application form for you and submit the application with all supporting documentation. We will liaise with the accreditation organisation throughout the whole process and assist with any enquiries concerning your application. The accreditation organisation which we use is part of the SSIP group.
Once you have gained your WorkSafe Contractor accreditation you can use this to satisfy most of the requirements for CHAS accreditation. We can then assist with the CHAS application and provided you meet the criteria can normally process your CHAS application within a few days. The WorkSafe Contractor Application fee has to be paid directly to the accreditation organisation and currently this is £120+VAT.
